Mina's Top Ten Female Idols/ Groups Ranking & Explanation
I tend to get good feedback when I do explanations for my rankings, and I wanted to post something. If there is a subject you want me to weigh in on let me know. I'm always looking for something to talk about. The reason I'm not including guys in this is because boy bands can be a little inconsistent. The majority I only care for their singles. Arashi and Super Junior are probably my top two, but I haven't heard much from Super Junior and Arashi hasn't been as good since 2010. Arashi, seriously what happened to those amazing singles. (Their most recent album had some great songs, but really lacking when it came to hit singles.)
I think you guys will enjoy this because I explain why I like who I like. I hope you find someone new that you like. I tend to find being called 'biased' offensive because I don't follow groups based on looks or the members. For me if I don't like the music then it is really hard for me to follow a group. Personality and looks help, but I don't listen to music for their personality.
1. AKB48
Why do I like AKB48 so much? There are a lot of factors that play into it, but the main reason is that I enjoy a significant amount of their music. The fact that they release so much, through singles, subgroups, and stages, likely increases the probability that I'll like some of it. I also adore the variety in styles. Yes, the majority is standard Pop, which is perfectly fine by my book, they also have songs that incorporate Rock and Hip-Hop. Akimoto went through a little latin phase (Team A's 6th Stage). I have a wide range of music I enjoy (from Nicki Minaj to Florence + the Machine, and so on). Plus, a lot of the songs have nice lyrics. They've also challenge themselves creatively. Even their earlier singles had captivating promotional videos and choreography. They are using their popularity to their advantage by working with some amazing artists and directors for their releases. I'm looking forward to see how the new lyricists will do. (If you haven't heard, Akimoto is hiring people to help him write music.) With new influences coming in I hope to see the music develop.
When I consider the interesting concept of 'a classroom' and watching the girls develop (Akimoto's CNN interview), I can overlook that some of the members aren't as talented as I would like them to be. This is a major negative to me. It also hurts the group because there are some strong vocalists, but the weaker members make them look bad. Another thing that makes up for that is the range in members. They have different personalities, and looks; there is pretty much someone for everyone.
2. Brown Eyed Girls
Brown Eyed Girls are quite different than AKB48, which is probably why I am tempted to put them on top. First off, the fact that they have members who are in their mid-twenties to thirties is lovely. The entertainment industry in a lot of countries, especially for women, is very youth-orientated. They are likely the most talented K-Pop, female, idol group. They are the perfect kind of sexy. (Confident and powerful sexy, not look-at-me and buy-my-music sexy.) Both their singles and solo work tend to be spectacular. My issue with them is, besides their singles, I don't like their music all too much. Also, they don't release music all too often. However, that is mostly the 'comeback' system in their industry's fault. So basically, they are more talented than AKB48, equal in personality, but AKB48 has more music that I like. However, the songs that I do like are so superb that they beat out SKE48 (who also have more songs that I like than BEG).
3. SKE48
I have similar reasons why I like SKE48 compared to AKB48, not unexpected since they have the same concept. What surprised me was how different stylistically they are. Their singles often make me imagine a lake or some body of water. They also tend to be more energetic dancers, this might be a Team S thing though. SKE48's members have a different look compared to AKB48. I really recommend watching their Zepp Nagoya (042910) and (122509) concerts; after I watched those I became a big fan. They lack a variety show like AKBingo!, which is why I don't know their names or personalities well. They've also improved the last couple of years.
4. Perfume
I don't blog much about Perfume. I don't have anything interesting to say about them. I believe they are the definition of idols. They seem perfect at all times, and reflect an ideal for women. They also follow the guideline of being popular. Perfume also has a good chance of continued long-term success, which is usually limited to male units. Perfume's musical style, while unique, isn't my favorite. I love it in the same way I love Enya. It isn't exactly party music or something I would listen to often, but it is relaxing and enjoyable.
5. NMB48
I had some trouble deciding where to place NMB48 on this ranking. Their singles have been good, but nothing outstanding. The members are surprising, considering how new they are to the industry, good performers. I originally placed it lower, but then I considered their stage. If you don't recall, I raved about their first stage. This is partly due to AKB and SKE's debut stages weren't as good, in my opinion. I can also see the Osaka flavor. I didn't care for the song or PV for Oh My God!, however their performance made me like the song. I think that is a good quality. It was a really bland song, but they were so adorable. They made me associate the two together. Now I actually want to listen to the song.
6. Morning Musume
You know how I said the main reason I love AKB is because of their music, that is what is hurting my interest in Morning Musume. After viewing the PV for Renai Hunter, I've decided that I like the 10th generation. (not as much as 9th gen.) Plus, with Takahashi and Niigaki gone I adore all the members. So, idol-wise they are in a great spot. (there is a concern about talent because as far as I know Reina is the only strong vocalist, but I don't know about 9th and 10th gen.) They just need to be more consistent with releases (that I like). Renai Hunter was in the right direction. (still want something more on the level of 10 MY ME and Maji Desu Ka Ska.) I'm still hanging on because it wasn't too long ago from when I really enjoyed their releases. Although, I'm impatient so I'm getting sick of waiting and disappointment.
7. Tokyo Girls Style
I wasn't expecting much after their debut single, but they've done an amazing job thus far. Their singles and albums have been good or better. I like how they infuse the typical idol sound with other genres. Keep it up ladies.
8. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
Kyary had me at hello. I find her singles addicting, but I wouldn't love them as much without the packaging. Her PVs are spectacular. Each one is different, but you see common imagery. Kyary is not the most talented idol walking around vocally or in terms of music. Excluding her singles, I don't care for her songs. Her selling point is her concepts and creativity. She knows how to sell it, and that is why I am always at the edge of my seat waiting for a new single.
9. Chocolat
I know this may piss off K-Pop fans when I've ranked this rookie group higher than most major groups like SNSD, Kara, and 2NE1. I just like them better. Their singles have been improving. The fact that three members are biracial interests me. Their dance practice videos are fun to watch. I enjoy their performances. Chocolat, especially my favorite Melanie, has strong vocals. I root for them. They also have the best English version for a Korean song that I've heard. (I think SNSD's sucked.)
10. Fairies
This is another rookie group, but from Japan. They could surpass some of the above groups if they divided up the singing more. I reject the E-girl groups because only two or three members sing when they have like seven members. On that point, they've been improving. Their dancing is wonderful. I also adore most of their singles. I also love their professional image. (older groups could perform in the same clothes.)
Honorable Mention: Super Girls, C-ute, BiS, Momoiro Clover Z, 2NE1, and Kara.

Upcoming Releases (There is Girl on Girl Action)
The one brilliant thing about the time difference is that I can wake up with wonderful news in the morning. It started off with the HEY!x3 Special where NMB, SKE, and No3b promoted their upcoming singles. It wasn't until I saw Melos No Michi's post about SKE48 that I started spazzing out. Unfortunately the news clip that previewed a lot of the PV has been put on private, but I hunted another one down.

Now NMB48 has also been impressing me with their choreography. Notice the lift they did 30 seconds into the performance. I kind of want to look into their ages since I find they are presented sexier than SKE48. It might be due to Osaka's flavor.
TYPE A
TYPE B
TYPE C
Fairies has improved in my mind. I know it is only one more member that is doing most of the singing, but the other members do have some lines which is more than I can say for Happiness. They are turing out to be a dance-version of Tokyo Girls Style (who has better vocals). I'm curious to see if these groups lasts considering the shelf life of units like SweetS.
The final performance that caught my eye was No Sleeves (No3b). I didn't love the song when I saw the PV, but it has grown on me. Did I mention that the limited editions come with posters; I love posters.

Mina's Back with her Top Ten Idol Ranking
I'm baaccck! Thanks to having a set deadline because of midterms I caught up with all my classes. After also getting over the worst cold I've ever had, as far as I can recall, I'm doing much better. Since I still have a lot on my plate I spend every school night and Sunday in the library. However, I need study breaks and this works well. Anyway I got some stuff for you guys. I am ranking my top ten idols of all genres (K-Pop, J-Pop, men and women). I'm also starting a weekly series: BAMF of the Week. Ideally it will be based on recent events, but if I don't pick up anything I'll use some that I want to recognize. I'm thinking Fridays. I decided to do it because it will be an easy way to keep blogging and I love me some bad-asses. They won't always fit the general definition, but idols who do something spectacular or boundry-pushing. Safe is boring.
1. Mii-chan (AKB)
She isn't always the frontrunner within AKB48. She also seemed to settle for the comedian role within the group. I miss her cute, cool, frontgirl presence she had. That is what I get from watching her variety. Put her in a single, concert, any kind of musical performance and she shines like she used to. She is beautiful dancer and singer. I think she should put her hair up more often because at the General Election she looked like perfection. At the moment I just want to see her as and idol. I'm not ready for her to become a comedian/ variety talent just yet.
2. Nino (Arashi)
The lonely, sexual powerhouse, handsomely cute, acting lyricist is Arashi's Nino. I half loved, half wasn't too impressed, compared to the one before it, with their album. However, one of stand-outs was Nino's solo which was absolutely lovely. He is gifted in so many ways. While I was in Japan my first host had a TV and Nino was on every other commercial break. I never got sick of it because he was refreshing. He got Oscar buzz for his role in Letters from Iwo Jima. He has written music for Arashi. He has a reputation as sex craved. Maybe it comes from him being lonely, which is how he identifies himself. Not to mention his TV personality is hilarious, sassy little bitch.
3. Narsha (BEG)
I'm quite anti-plastic, but I have a amnesty policy to those who are upfront about it. It lets us know that they are not a realistic image. Narsha always looks amazing, which mainly focuses around hair. I worship her solo singles and her singles with Brown Eyed Girls. Have you seen her hit that high note in Sixth Sense? Damn BEG, that is why I desperately wait for your resurfacing. I've watched some clips of Narsha on YouTube and I enjoyed watching her effervescence. Girl, you fierce.
4. Acchan (AKB)
I was tempted to put her as my number one, but I didn't. I just gravitate to her. She is relatable, introverted, hardworking, and awhhh desirable! I want to meet her more than Mii-chan. I don't know what I would do if she wasn't center; she would probably be forever my oshi. I am a bit disappointed that her next single sounds like another singer-songwriter track. I am one for variety, which is why AKB is my favorite artist. Infinite, well it is called a hyperbole, variety.
5. Riida (Arashi)
Ranking the rest of Arashi after Nino was difficult to say the least. I almost had them all at number five, but I beat myself down because ties are unacceptable (if you've looked at number seven well then that's better than a four way tie). Ohno is a great dancer, a wonderful singer, and adorably entertaining. He is definitely one of the more American-guy friendly member (her fishes). MatsuJun and Nino are both dedicating to getting in his pants, lolz. I adore his rawesome, spiky dragonball hair. Just look at his facial expression.
6. Sho (Arashi)
I think the picture says it all. . . ok not really, I'm not that shallow. I find it amusing that he is the rapper of the group and he is the one with the prestigious education. My parents want me to attend Keio while I'm abroad, but Nanzan has a better Japanese and homestay program. He is a good dancer and singer. Plus, he has a belly button piercing. He always does these over-the-top reactions/ facial expressions. He is unfortunate when it comes to animals, with the exceptions of small, cute ones. He reads the newspaper often, which is an attractive trait in guys. Hey I like 'em smart. Then again, with that body I wouldn't mind if he was dumb. I give idols who attend college tons of points.
7. MatsuJun and Aibaka (Arashi)
8. Sayaka (NMB)
I was skeptical when she was pushed as NMB48's center. However, once I watched her perform Bird I was impressed. I enjoyed it more than Takamina's performances. She had an aura around her in their first stage. I've enjoyed the glimpses of her in AKB48's single PVs. I hope to see more of her.
9. Ga-In (BEG)
Meet the dark and sexy Ga-In. Watch Brown Eyed Girls version of Gee and you'll see it. She is a great dancer, one of my weak spots, that and being a bad-ass.
10. Takamina (AKB)
Wow, I know. All of a sudden she has just been spectacular. Before she was more of a comedian in my eyes, but she has been a bit more fashionable (without losing her personality) and has experimented with her hairstyle. She is one of the best singers in AKB48, and she isn't a bad dancer to boot. She has a complete package which is why she makes so many solo TV appearances. I respect her because of her terrific leadership.

7. MatsuJun and Aibaka (Arashi)
Come on! Aiba is hysterical (best person to watch for Engrish). Jun is amazing in dramas and has a nice butt. They are the weakest singers within Arashi. I've been talking too long so I'm running out of steam, plus I'm trying out The Vampire Diaries to see if I'll dig it. I can't even describe it.

Old Favorites & Recent Fascinations
BiS - Fresh Faced Idols?
Most of you know by now that Japan and Korea are having an idol boom. New groups are sprouting up and gaining attention every which way (sorry if that doesn't make sense to you it is a phrase I use. . . Midwest thing?). One unit, BiS [Brand new Idol Society], has released their (major?) debut single and hit the Oricon charts. (Another unit Kiss-My-Ft2, from JE, got the number one spot. How is their name pronounced? Kiss My Foot?) They have an edgier image, rebelling against the idea that idols have to be clean and proper. I saw them first through Pure Idol Heart and I responded well to the PV posted. I checked them out on YouTube and I was intrigued. However, I was a bit dumbfounded when I started watching their hit single:
I was shocked, but then I was distracted by some beautiful shots and realized they did a good job. Nudity can be done tastefully and it reminded me of various paintings. (My favorite place in LA is the Getty. I went there twice while I was in LA for the first time.) Once I regained myself I went wait, we are missing someone! The member, which happens to be my favorite, is no longer in the group. Which sucks if it was because of the nudity thing. They found a replacement, but I'm bummed. See I like variety in groups and now it feels like they are missing an element, and overly cute one. I was a huge fan of t.A.T.u, still am but not as big. They did a tribute to t.A.T.u. which was great. But, my favorite has to be this one:
Anyway, with my favorite member gone I am a bit undecided if I should continue following them. I will stick around to see how I like the new member, but she will be missed. (Fortunately my second favorite, girl with short hair and extra piercings, is still there.)
Do I Still Care?
Hello Project has been luke-warm for me as of late, to none of your surprise. Why do I keep bringing it up? Because I still want to like and enjoy being a fan. I want to keep one foot on each side of the river(?). I got S/mileage's first album which was pretty good, mostly because I adored their singles. Berryz Koubou still releases likable singles. . . I really like their latest at least. C-ute has sooooo much potential. (If only they had a different producer!) Morning Musume has all those great new members! Most of my disappointment falls on their producer Tsunku. I mean, everything would be peachy if they had better music. But who can blame him, he is distracted by the indie idols like Afilia Saga East. Honestly, I've stopped caring about Morning Musume and S/mileage. I'm paying them as much attention as Kiss-My-Ft2 and SNSD. I've even deleted my tags on Tumblr for Hello Project and Morning Musume, which means I don't even want to look at pictures or videos of them. I'm still rooting for C-ute.
Hello Project isn't the only idols I've deleted my tag on Tumblr for: Momoiro Clover. The management just keeps pissing me off then Akari leaves and I've had it. They aren't the same without Akari. They look like a more miss-matched, older version of Tokyo Girls Style (who I am recently entranced by).
Oh, and I think Beckii Cruel's upcoming single sounds horrible and she isn't that good of a dancer (if you've watched her recent Morning Musume dance cover).
Rising Stars (the brighter side of things)
NMB48 (polished in very little time)
Tokyo Girls Style (avex is pulling through)
Hey Say Jump (their latest was a stupendous improvement)
Afilia Saga East (we'll see, seems a bit only fan service)
Super Girls (another we shall see case)
Recent Cravings
I've been going through some odd obsessions. I'm a DD when it comes to AKB48, so I shouldn't be so surprised when I jump from one member interest to another. Today I was watching old footage of Ayaka Kikuchi, before she was fired. All of a sudden I've missed Oshima's pervy cuteness. Then there is Iwasa Misaki's powerhouse vocals. I've changed my wallpaper to Kasai Tomomi. Akimoto Sayaka's awesome~ness. I'm literally all over the place. Now I found some subtitled videos which has an adorable Takamina (I mean her hair and that hat are super flattering) and then Sasshi accidentally causing dirty jokes. Why don't I dislike anyone within AKB48? They have so many membersssss. . . oh yeah Haruka Ishida is the only one out of what is it now 75?
Am I Suffering From a K-Pop Phase?
I've been addicted to Nine Muses' No Playboy. My friends and I want to learn the dance to HyunA's Bubble Pop. I keep on hearing bollywood in my favorite Super Junior Korean singles. I've been voting in Eat Your Kimchi polls. I went through a huge K-drama stint while in Japan. What is happening to me?
Can Happiness Be Considered a Girl Group?
If you've seen them perform or have watched one of their PVs you might of noticed that only two girls sing. It almost feels like one center with a support singer and then a whole bunch of back up dancers. I was looking forward to the group since they were good dancers, but WTF is this? I'm all for dancers getting a bigger spotlight, but can they not sing at all? Their lead vocalist is spectacular! I almost prefer her to go solo. You see I adore Matsuda Seiko, an idol-soloist from way back. For some reason I keep on seeking out her replacement or equal for today. One of the candidates is Happiness' lead vocalist, the other is Acchan from AKB48. What do you think? I will post some videos after the jump to give you a better perspective.

Idols' Sex Appeal and Other Topics
AKB48 and Pictorials
One thing I was excited about when I came to Japan is that I would be able to purchase magazines that AKB48 appeared in. Besides Itano Tomomi and Maeda Atsuko, most of those appearances are in clearly male-targeted media. And for those girls who wish to see the photo spreads of their idols, purchasing a copy is not worth it. Often in thick, guy manga books (way to thick for me to consider it a magazine) there will be a couple of pages and maybe a small interview column at the front.
However I got over the disappointment that they appear in men's magazines and not many female-orientated content. I bet that is exactly why people think they don't have any female fans. May I suggest a comparison? Japan has a lot of boy bands too, which do you think has more of the same-gender fans? Another thing that comforted me, is that the guys are also used for their fans' enjoyment (shirts with the nipple cut outs, cross dressing, tight pants, and other things). . .
'If We Aren't #1 on Oricon' Ultimatums
Two new idol groups have both used (or are currently using) this ploy to guarantee high CD sales. This crosses the line for me between good marketing and abusing fans. One reason why I still purchase the physical CDs (only Japanese though) is because they come with extras like with a DVD, a photo, and other things. It makes paying the price worthwhile. Besides, I want to support the artist. Before I didn't think much would come of it. However, NMB48's sales went up towards the end of the week and that rubbed me the wrong way. I want my idols to deserve it, not pressure their obsessive fans to buy more. Plus, it just provides anti-fans evidence that they aren't actually popular but their fans buy a ton of copies. I was planning on grabbing a copy of NMB48's first single because the songs were pretty good and I was impressed by their first stage. However, I am now on the fence by this cheap shot. I know the girls don't have much power when it comes to these decisions. It has also turned me against PASSPO. I thought with their debut single release hitting number one that I should direct some attention to them. But I think not. It takes away the warm, happy feeling when they do succeed. If they do hit number one again, it won't impress me. I would actually be disappointed in their fans who are okay with being so obviously used by their management.
What Crosses the Sexy | Slutty Line?
The Health Concern of Idols
We've heard about it when variety programs have tell-all specials with Morning Musume's OG. There has been recent reports about AKB48 members becoming ill during fan events and concerts. The top female idol group have it tough during their peak. We probably don't know the true extent till it is all over. (Morning Musume members talking about memory lost performing with a fever.) So do we accept it as part of the industry trying to fill the demand, or should idols take breaks when they get sick to rest? My concern is that being overworked will lead to bigger problems, or at least poor performance and more likely to become ill again. Personally, I do appreciate them trying to fight through it. However, when I heard about Acchan exerting herself to perform 'Flying Get' I wonder if I would be okay with her just sitting it out. AKB48 is big enough that I bet they have substitutes prepared. Mayu and Yui have filled in for Acchan while promoting singles. I bet there is someone who knows her part. I know it would disappoint fans during the concert, but they also care about their well-being.
What To Do About the Face of AKB48?
Maeda Atsuko, like I mentioned before, has a lot on her plate. She wants to become an actress and she has started a successful solo career. I think Akimoto should begin a shift, at least after the 24th janken single. I know that is soon, but I'm thinking slow and gradual is better than all of a sudden. The good news is that AKB48 is not as handicapped as Morning Musume is. Acchan is only the face of AKB48 and AKB does not give too many solo lines to anyone member. Takahashi Ai is basically the face and voice of Morning Musume, so Tsunku dug them in a bit of a whole. Then again, Akimoto might have already started turning the wheels. Remember Sasshi competing with Acchan in the blogosphere? So who is best to move into the center. We could move Oshima Yuko to the spot, at least as a transition. Oshima Yuko is the second most popular and has proven that she can hold her own. What Acchan has that Oshima lacks is a quiet, general appeal. Oshima is a bit too goofy and loud to be the next center, plus she is closer to the age limit than Acchan. Most of current senbatsu have their own character that is different than Acchan's. Mayuyu is probably the best groomed to be Acchan's replacement. She is younger, popular, and posses a broad appeal. Besides, is it fitting to have an anime otaku as the center of a group with Akihabara in the name. Then again, do we want to replace Acchan or should AKB48 take the opportunity to take their look in a different direction? All I'm saying is the longer we wait the worse this might get because can you see Acchan's popularity decreasing?

What Crosses the Sexy | Slutty Line?
I added this video to one of my PV posts and was wondering if anyone watched it. And people accused AKB48 of being slutty in Heavy Rotation? So what makes this video go too far (at least in my opinion)? She is wearing more clothes than AKB48's Heavy Rotation and their swimsuit PVs. However, like I've said before it is not the amount of skin showing, well not all the time. (Dancing around nude or without covering up the main spots would cross the line.) I wouldn't even consider the AKB48 PVs sexy, but fun and playful. Well then what would I consider sexy that doesn't cross the line?
So what is the elements that cross the line? I think factors that contribute is her 'sex faces' and skimpy clothing, but that is not the main issue. The choreography is the problem. In BEG's music video they had sexy dance movements but they were small sections combined with other good dancing. Hyuna's non-sexualized choreography is her flaying about and hairography, using your hair to distract from poor dancing. Sexy dancing is perfectly fine by me, you see a lot of it in BoA's music video. However, Hyuna's is just vulgar. She pushes her boobs together with her upper arms while shaking her butt. She then does this move were she wipes her vagina, all you need is some toilet paper. We have the chorus section which is just her shaking her butt at the camera and gyrating. There are sections of her just standing in front of the camera doing 'oh look how sexy i am' face and other things during that (like the model collapse stomach pose). She just looks like she is trying to hard. I have nothing against being confident and sexy, but she is not doing it right. Reminder, this is my opinion I am not saying Hyuna is a slut. I'm saying that she is coming across, to me, in this video as slutty.

Mina's Ideal 24th Janken Tournament Result
Since it is all based on luck it is kind of fun to think how you would like it to go. Last time I thought that this would also decide Theatre-girls and Undergirls line-up too. Unfortunately that wasn't true because I was excited about seeing that too. We may get another set of team songs as the third tracks. While the result didn't change the typical senbatsu line-up, but it did give the girls plenty of screen time. Uchida, the winner, got a major role in Majisuka Gakuen and was all over the news when the result came out. They also were featured in AKB48 shows like AKBingo!, got to promote the single, and film the PV. This is an amazing opportunity for an unknown face to get a taste of the limelight. In the comments you can mention who your ideal senbatsu would be or at least the center.
Sato Meiko VS Fujita Nana: Sato Meiko
Yonezawa Rumi VS Umeda Ayaka: Yonezawa Rumi
Umeda has DiVA.
Bracket B
Kikuchi Ayaka VS Izuta Rina: Kikuchi Ayaka
I think Izuta is cute and all, but Kikuchi has been around longer and has been in senbatsu before. She has a chance of sticking.
Shimazaki Haruka VS Fujie Reina: Shimazaki Haruka
This might be the hardest yet!
Oba Mina VS Kasai Tomomi: Kasai Tomomi
Kasai is older and is more likely to graduate sooner than Oba. This was another tough one. The only problem with this one is I would prefer it the other way unless I thought Kasai could get the center.
Nonaka Misato VS Sato Natsuki: Sato Natsuki
Nakatsuka Tomomi VS Iwasa Misaki: Iwasa Misaki
I can not pass up Iwasa's talent.
Sato Sumire VS Nagao Mariya: Sato Sumire
Nakaya Sayaka VS Watanabe Mayu: Nakaya Sayaka
Yokoyama Yui VS Kuwabara Mizuki: Kuwabara Mizuki
God no!!!! Yui will probably be a regular member of senbatsu anyway.
Bracket C
Nito Moeno VS Tanabe Miku: Nito Moeno
Nito was kind of in a group with Takajo Aki, Kitahara Rie, and Sashihara Rino in my eyes, but she is the only one not in senbatsu.
Kobayashi Kana VS Oya Shizuka: Oya Shizuka
Takajo Aki VS Nakamata Shiori: Nakamata Shiori
This one is difficult. . .
Kojima Haruna VS Takahashi Minami: Kojima Haruna
Kojiharu is older.
Wakabayashi Tomoka VS Masuda Yuka: Masuda Yuka
She has the potential to become a regular senbatsu member.
Takeuchi Miyu VS Yamaguchi Yuuki: Takeuchi Miyu
Chikano Rina VS Shinoda Mariko: Shinoda Mariko
Suzuki Mariya VS Matsui Sakiko: Matsui Sakiko
Bracket D
Kuramochi Asuka VS Minegishi Minami: Minegishi Minami
Matsui Jurina VS Miyazawa Sae: Miyazawa Sae
Miyazaki Miho VS Yamauchi Suzuran: Miyazaki Miho
Ranran still has time, but Myao has been decreasing in rank.
Sato Amina VS Takeuchi Mai: Sato Amina
Katayama Haruka VS Iriyama Anna: Katayama Haruka
Pure talent wins.
Kitahara Rie VS Itano Tomomi: Kitahara Rie
Itano has a solo career, so she is set.
Oshima Yuko VS Maeda Ami: Maeda Ami
One of my favorite Undergirls PV is the one where Maeda is center.
Sashihara Rino VS Uchida Mayumi: Uchida Mayumi
Sasshi has a TV show, and she has risen in ranks. Plus, if Uchida wins a second time then it is destiny talking. Besides, I really like her.
Round 2 - Top 16
Bracket A
Hikawa Ayame VS Nakata Chisato: Hikawa Ayame
Ota Aika VS Akimoto Sayaka: Ota Aika
I guess I am going for a cute single.
Komori Mika VS Kobayashi Marina: Komori Mika
Sato Meiko VS Yonezawa Rumi: Yonezawa Rumi
Bracket B
Kikuchi Ayaka VS Shimazaki Haruka: Kikuchi Ayaka
Kasai Tomomi VS Sato Natsuki: Kasai Tomomi
Iwasa Misaki VS Sato Sumire: Iwasa Misaki
Nakaya Sayaka VS Kuwabara Mizuki: Kuwabara Mizuki
Bracket C
Nito Moeno VS Oya Shizuka: Nito Moeno
Nakamata Shiori VS Kojima Haruna: Nakamata Shiori
Takeuchi Miyu VS Masuda Yuka: Masuda Yuka
Shinoda Mariko VS Matsui Sakiko: Shinoda Mariko
Bracket D
Minegishi Minami VS Miyazawa Sae: Minegishi Minami
Miyazaki Miho VS Sato Amina: Sato Amina
Katayama Haruka VS Kitahara Rie: Kitahara Rie
Maeda Ami VS Uchida Mayumi: Maeda Ami
Round 3 -Top 8
This round becomes more of who I like better, and less who I would like to see more of.
Bracket A
Hikawa Ayame VS Ota Aika: Ota Aika
Komori Mika VS Yonezawa Rumi: Komori Mika
Bracket B
Kikuchi Ayaka VS Kasai Tomomi: Kasai Tomomi
Iwasa Misaki VS Kuwabara Mizuki: Iwasa Misaki
Bracket C
Nito Moeno VS Nakamata Shiori: Nito Moeno
Masuda Yuka VS Shinoda Mariko: Shinoda Mariko
Bracket D
Minegishi Minami VS Sato Amina: Minegishi Minami
Kitahara Rie VS Maeda Ami: Maeda Ami
Round 4 - Top 4
Now I start thinking about the line up.
Bracket A Winner:
Ota Aika VS Komori Mika: Komori Mika
Bracket B Winner:
Kasai Tomomi VS Iwasa Misaki: Iwasa Misaki
Kasai is closer to the center than she usually would be, but for someone like Iwasa the closer she is to the center the more needed attention she'll get. Kasai is already known by common fans; Iwasa is not.
Bracket C Winner:
Nito Moeno VS Shinoda Mariko: Nito Moeno
Bracket D Winner:
Minegishi Minami VS Maeda Ami: Minegishi Minami
Round 5
Now I am considering what kind of song Akimoto would make based on who is the center and closest to the top.
Komori Mika VS Iwasa Misaki: Iwasa Misaki
Nito Moeno VS Minegishi Minami: Minegishi Minami
Nito Moeno VS Komori Mika: Nito Moeno
Center Round
Minegishi Minami VS Iwasa Misaki: Minegishi Minami
1. Minegishi Minami
2. Iwasa Misaki
3. Nito Moeno
The nice thing about this result is that higher senbatsu are relatively known members but none are, with the exception of Mariko-sama, media senbatsu. I was thinking something dark because Moeno is a bad-ass, Iwasa has some mad vocals, and Minegishi as a Team K member can play the cool role and can dance. Komori Mika also can be sexy and cool, as seen by her B5 unit. The perfect center would be Minegishi Minami. She is all about screen-time. What better thing than her winning center. She has been senbatsu since the beginning, but she has dropped out of media senbatsu. You could also do a ballad or a goofy track.
Mina's Senbatsu:
1. Minegishi Minami
2. Iwasa Misaki
3. Nito Moeno
4. Komori Mika
5. Kasai Tomomi
6. Maeda Ami
7. Ota Aika
8. Shinoda Mariko
9. Kikuchi Ayaka
10. Kuwabara Mizuki
11. Sato Amina
12. Kitahara Rie
13. Masuda Yuka
14. Nakamata Shiori
15. Yonezawa Rumi
16. Hikawa Ayame
If you would like to see how I came to this conclusion, continue after the break for a round by round break down.
Preliminary Round
Bracket A
Hikawa Ayame VS Nakamura Mariko: Hikawa Ayame
She is an NMB48 trainee, but she'll probably be in the Team M when they form it. She looks like a cross between Kashiwagi Yuki and Nito Moeno.
Hirajima Natsumi VS Mori Anna: Hirajima Natsumi
This one was really hard! Hirajima is always an Undergirl and she is a 1st generation member of AKB48. I would like to see more of her, but Mori is a member of Team 4 and I don't know much about her yet. I like how she smiles like Kimoto Kanon.
Bracket B
Kashiwagi Yuki VS Kikuchi Ayaka: Kikuchi Ayaka
Yukirin moved up to third in the General Election, so it is time to give another favorite of mine a shot.
Nakatsuka Tomomi VS Ichikawa Miori: Nakatsuka Tomomi
Nakatsuka made senbatsu at the last tournament, but I would still like to see her get more attention. Miorin doesn't need help climbing up the ladder.
Bracket C
Ishida Haruka VS Nito Moeno: Nito Moeno
Moeno is a bad-ass! I still am suspicious of Ishida since the rumor came out that she is a diva backstage so the staff dislike her. In the overseas photobook from this year she looked bored and a bit like a diva in the pictures.
Matsubara Natsumi VS Wakabayashi Tomoka: Wakabayashi Tomoka
While I do prefer members of AKB48 to be in the AKB48 single, this would be a good opportunity for her to move up within SKE48. She can play cute or sexy.
Bracket D
Shimada Haruka VS Kuramochi Asuka: Kuramochi Asuka
Round 1
Bracket A
Hikawa Ayame VS Nakagawa Haruka: Hikawa Ayame
I am curious.
Nakata Chisato VS Yogi Keira: Nakata Chisato
I don't know anything about the other girl, but I would prefer a full-fledged member over a trainee. Plus, I like Nakata.
Suzuki Shihori VS Ota Aika: Ota Aika
While I would like to see more of the giant Suzuki, I want to see more of Lovetan more.
Akimoto Sayaka VS Maeda Atsuko: Akimoto Sayaka
Acchan is my third favorite member, but she has been having difficulty with everything on her plate. There has been reports of her becoming ill. She has a solo career, being the regular center of AKB, and a drama to deal with. It would be nice for her to have a break. Besides that, Sayaka is a hard worker and really talented. She definitely deserve to be more in the spotlight.
Hirajima Natsumi VS Komori Mika: Komori Mika
Shimada Rena VS Kobayashi Marina: Kobayashi Marina
Yonezawa Rumi VS Umeda Ayaka: Yonezawa Rumi
Umeda has DiVA.
Bracket B
Kikuchi Ayaka VS Izuta Rina: Kikuchi Ayaka
I think Izuta is cute and all, but Kikuchi has been around longer and has been in senbatsu before. She has a chance of sticking.
Shimazaki Haruka VS Fujie Reina: Shimazaki Haruka
This might be the hardest yet!
Oba Mina VS Kasai Tomomi: Kasai Tomomi
Kasai is older and is more likely to graduate sooner than Oba. This was another tough one. The only problem with this one is I would prefer it the other way unless I thought Kasai could get the center.
Nonaka Misato VS Sato Natsuki: Sato Natsuki
Nakatsuka Tomomi VS Iwasa Misaki: Iwasa Misaki
I can not pass up Iwasa's talent.
Sato Sumire VS Nagao Mariya: Sato Sumire
Nakaya Sayaka VS Watanabe Mayu: Nakaya Sayaka
Yokoyama Yui VS Kuwabara Mizuki: Kuwabara Mizuki
God no!!!! Yui will probably be a regular member of senbatsu anyway.
Bracket C
Nito Moeno VS Tanabe Miku: Nito Moeno
Nito was kind of in a group with Takajo Aki, Kitahara Rie, and Sashihara Rino in my eyes, but she is the only one not in senbatsu.
Kobayashi Kana VS Oya Shizuka: Oya Shizuka
Takajo Aki VS Nakamata Shiori: Nakamata Shiori
This one is difficult. . .
Kojima Haruna VS Takahashi Minami: Kojima Haruna
Kojiharu is older.
Wakabayashi Tomoka VS Masuda Yuka: Masuda Yuka
She has the potential to become a regular senbatsu member.
Takeuchi Miyu VS Yamaguchi Yuuki: Takeuchi Miyu
Chikano Rina VS Shinoda Mariko: Shinoda Mariko
Suzuki Mariya VS Matsui Sakiko: Matsui Sakiko
Bracket D
Kuramochi Asuka VS Minegishi Minami: Minegishi Minami
Matsui Jurina VS Miyazawa Sae: Miyazawa Sae
Miyazaki Miho VS Yamauchi Suzuran: Miyazaki Miho
Ranran still has time, but Myao has been decreasing in rank.
Sato Amina VS Takeuchi Mai: Sato Amina
Katayama Haruka VS Iriyama Anna: Katayama Haruka
Pure talent wins.
Kitahara Rie VS Itano Tomomi: Kitahara Rie
Itano has a solo career, so she is set.
Oshima Yuko VS Maeda Ami: Maeda Ami
One of my favorite Undergirls PV is the one where Maeda is center.
Sashihara Rino VS Uchida Mayumi: Uchida Mayumi
Sasshi has a TV show, and she has risen in ranks. Plus, if Uchida wins a second time then it is destiny talking. Besides, I really like her.
Round 2 - Top 16
Bracket A
Hikawa Ayame VS Nakata Chisato: Hikawa Ayame
Ota Aika VS Akimoto Sayaka: Ota Aika
I guess I am going for a cute single.
Komori Mika VS Kobayashi Marina: Komori Mika
Sato Meiko VS Yonezawa Rumi: Yonezawa Rumi
Bracket B
Kikuchi Ayaka VS Shimazaki Haruka: Kikuchi Ayaka
Kasai Tomomi VS Sato Natsuki: Kasai Tomomi
Iwasa Misaki VS Sato Sumire: Iwasa Misaki
Nakaya Sayaka VS Kuwabara Mizuki: Kuwabara Mizuki
Bracket C
Nito Moeno VS Oya Shizuka: Nito Moeno
Nakamata Shiori VS Kojima Haruna: Nakamata Shiori
Takeuchi Miyu VS Masuda Yuka: Masuda Yuka
Shinoda Mariko VS Matsui Sakiko: Shinoda Mariko
Bracket D
Minegishi Minami VS Miyazawa Sae: Minegishi Minami
Miyazaki Miho VS Sato Amina: Sato Amina
Katayama Haruka VS Kitahara Rie: Kitahara Rie
Maeda Ami VS Uchida Mayumi: Maeda Ami
Round 3 -Top 8
This round becomes more of who I like better, and less who I would like to see more of.
Bracket A
Hikawa Ayame VS Ota Aika: Ota Aika
Komori Mika VS Yonezawa Rumi: Komori Mika
Bracket B
Kikuchi Ayaka VS Kasai Tomomi: Kasai Tomomi
Iwasa Misaki VS Kuwabara Mizuki: Iwasa Misaki
Bracket C
Nito Moeno VS Nakamata Shiori: Nito Moeno
Masuda Yuka VS Shinoda Mariko: Shinoda Mariko
Bracket D
Minegishi Minami VS Sato Amina: Minegishi Minami
Kitahara Rie VS Maeda Ami: Maeda Ami
Round 4 - Top 4
Now I start thinking about the line up.
Bracket A Winner:
Ota Aika VS Komori Mika: Komori Mika
Bracket B Winner:
Kasai Tomomi VS Iwasa Misaki: Iwasa Misaki
Kasai is closer to the center than she usually would be, but for someone like Iwasa the closer she is to the center the more needed attention she'll get. Kasai is already known by common fans; Iwasa is not.
Bracket C Winner:
Nito Moeno VS Shinoda Mariko: Nito Moeno
Bracket D Winner:
Minegishi Minami VS Maeda Ami: Minegishi Minami
Round 5
Now I am considering what kind of song Akimoto would make based on who is the center and closest to the top.
Komori Mika VS Iwasa Misaki: Iwasa Misaki
Nito Moeno VS Minegishi Minami: Minegishi Minami
Nito Moeno VS Komori Mika: Nito Moeno
Center Round
Minegishi Minami VS Iwasa Misaki: Minegishi Minami
1. Minegishi Minami
2. Iwasa Misaki
3. Nito Moeno
The nice thing about this result is that higher senbatsu are relatively known members but none are, with the exception of Mariko-sama, media senbatsu. I was thinking something dark because Moeno is a bad-ass, Iwasa has some mad vocals, and Minegishi as a Team K member can play the cool role and can dance. Komori Mika also can be sexy and cool, as seen by her B5 unit. The perfect center would be Minegishi Minami. She is all about screen-time. What better thing than her winning center. She has been senbatsu since the beginning, but she has dropped out of media senbatsu. You could also do a ballad or a goofy track.
